There’s nothing quite as satisfying as seeing exceptional design celebrated in print — so we were delighted to see Hattie Hansard, Senior Designer at Joanna Wood, featured in Country & Town House in the beautifully written piece “Inside A Grade II-Listed Former School House Layered With Contemporary Flair” by Carole Annett.
It’s a wonderful moment for Hattie and the Joanna Wood team, and we’re quietly chuffed to have supported such a thoughtful and deserving feature. Our thanks go to Carole and the Country & Town House editorial team for capturing the spirit of the project so perfectly.
A School House Reimagined
Originally designed in 1908, this Grade II-listed Edwardian school house has been transformed from a lofty, all-white expanse into a richly layered home full of personality and warmth. The ceilings soar over 7.5 metres, and the footprint spans an impressive 6,000 square feet, offering both scale and scope for creative flair.
As the feature highlights, Hattie approached the project with her trademark blend of confidence and charm — introducing mirrored arches to create cohesion, balancing statement pieces with antique textiles, and infusing the space with a deft use of colour and texture.
From the vibrant stair runner to the Tom Faulkner tables and Pierre Frey fabrics, every element plays its part in creating a home that feels both considered and entirely lived-in. Or, as Hattie puts it, “We call it knocking the starch out” — a wonderfully British turn of phrase that perfectly captures her relaxed yet refined approach.
Upstairs, a vast mezzanine now houses a stylish study area, while the bedrooms are each designed with their own personality in mind. The guest suite, adorned with Andrew Martin’s tulip wallpaper, Riviere rugs, and Guinevere lamps, is a particular triumph — bold, elegant, and just a touch playful.

This feature is a testament to what happens when exceptional design meets the right editorial platform — something we’re always proud to help facilitate for our clients.
Our warm thanks once again to Carole Annett for her insightful coverage and to the Country & Town House team for celebrating such a beautifully layered project.
