Peter Page Between Lines: A New Direction in Contemporary Rug Design

British rug studio Peter Page introduces Between Lines, a new silk flatweave collection that pushes the boundaries of contemporary rug design in the UK.

Launching in May 2026, the collection features eight designs woven from hand-spun silk on a cotton warp, developed in close collaboration with master weavers in India. The technique intentionally reveals the cotton thread beneath the silk surface, creating a subtle linear structure that brings movement, depth and texture to each piece.

Material, Texture and Movement

At the heart of Between Lines is the interplay between structure and fluidity. The naturally slubbed texture of the silk enhances colour variation, while its soft lustre responds to changing light throughout the day. This creates rugs that feel layered and dynamic, offering a refined yet tactile foundation for luxury interiors and modern British homes.

Two Distinct Design Directions

The collection is divided into two design languages:

• Organic designs draw inspiration from nature, referencing cracked earth, water ripples and cloud formations. The result is a series of fluid, intuitive patterns that feel effortless and liveable.

• Geometric designs take cues from architectural detailing such as panelling and masonry, exploring repetition and proportion to create a more structured, understated aesthetic.

Together, they offer versatility across both classical and contemporary interior schemes.

A Contemporary Approach to Colour and Craft

Known for its confident use of colour, Peter Page introduces a palette of softened greens, muted pinks, terracottas and blues. The interaction between silk and weaving technique allows tones to shift subtly across the surface, adding depth and visual complexity.

Each rug is finished with a tonal cotton fringe and is available in bespoke sizes and custom colourways, making the collection adaptable for a wide range of interior design projects.
