The beautifully layered Montecito home designed by Henriette von Stockhausen exemplifies the power of a shared design vision between client and designer, resulting in a space that blends European elegance with Californian charm.
The collaboration began through Instagram, where a simple query about paint colours evolved into a full-scale design partnership. Despite the challenges of remote work during the pandemic, the process unfolded seamlessly, culminating in a home rich with character, antiques, and custom details.
Far from the expected minimalist Californian aesthetic, this residence embraces depth and history. Every room is thoughtfully curated, featuring hand-selected antique textiles, bespoke furniture, and intricate wallcoverings. One standout feature is the Iksel wallpaper in the cinema room, inspired by Sicilian palaces, which adds a sense of grandeur. Throughout the home, antique rugs and carefully sourced decorative elements create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Set within a canyon with sweeping ocean views, the open-plan layout posed a unique design challenge. Ingenious solutions, such as antique linen panels and tapestries, offer flexibility to create more intimate spaces when needed. The result is a home that feels both expansive and personal, embracing natural light while maintaining a sense of comfort and privacy.
Every detail, from the custom paint colours to the hand-stitched curtains, reflects VSP Interiors’ commitment to craftsmanship and timeless design. This project is not only a testament to Henriette von Stockhausen’s talent but also to the lasting relationships formed through great design.
